Police Reveal Details of How Gunmen Killed Lagos Monarch’s Son

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of Demola, the eldest son of Tijani Akinloye, the Ojomu of Ajiran land. The incident, which took place on Monday along Chevron Drive in Lekki, Lagos State, caused significant alarm and led to residents fleeing the area.

The estate management in the community has advised residents to avoid the Chevron, Agungi, and Ajiran areas following the assassination of Demola Akinloye, the first son of the Ojomu of Ajiran land, Tijani Akinloye. The notice urged residents to stay clear of these areas for their safety after the attack, which occurred near Chevron Drive.

A resident, Bukunmi Folahanmi, stated she would not be going to work due to the incident, although vigilantes have been deployed in the area.

Lagos Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that Demola Akinloye, 50, was attacked around 12:30 pm while driving his black Toyota Corolla near Bourdillon Court Estate. Four armed men in a white minibus shot and stabbed him to death. The police recovered an expended cartridge at the scene, and the body has been moved to a morgue in Ajah for autopsy. The case will be investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba.

According to The Punch, another source from the area said he suspected the attack was carried out by those “eyeing the throne.”, although the claim could not be verified.

“He is the heir to the throne. The news around the community is that the act was carried out by those eyeing the throne, even though his father is still alive,” the source who craved anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident said.

A member of the family under anonymity said the family had been thrown into mourning due to the incident.

He said, “We were shocked to receive the news of the incident. This was a child the father loved so dearly and pampered. He also had a striking semblance with him. If you see him, then you have seen the king. The mood in the palace now is not okay at all. Both the king and members of the family have stopped attending to people for now.”
