THE Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria, FOMWAN, has urged President Bola Tinubu to find lasting solutions to the soaring prices of food prices and insecurity across the country.
In a communique issued after its 39th Annual National Conference in Akure, Ondo State, female lawyers expressed their concerns. The statement, issued by National President Hajiya Ra’afiah Sanni and Public Relations Officer Hajiya Maimuna Momodu, highlighted their worries about the high costs of food, goods, and services, noting that women disproportionately bear the burden of these issues.
The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) also expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity in the country. They attributed these challenges to a deviation from Allah’s teachings, which promise famine and insecurity as consequences of community corruption.
The communique suggested several measures to address these issues, including pursuing comprehensive education (both Islamic and Western), acquiring skills to improve women’s employment prospects, and engaging in self-sustaining activities to enhance family economic security. It urged women to participate in female political education and involvement to boost access to development and funding. Additionally, the statement called for greater collaboration with government institutions and NGOs to improve opportunities in agriculture and employment for women and girls.
