NMDPRA shut down two filling stations in Warri for operating with expired licenses.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has closed two filling stations in Warri due to “under-dispensing” and operating with expired licenses. Idemudia Obeahon, who is acting on behalf of NMDPRA’s Delta coordinator Victor Ohwodiasa, led the inspection team and reported the findings after a recent surveillance operation.

Obeahon explained that routine surveillance is part of their duties to ensure petroleum products are dispensed accurately and safely. The checks include verifying product quality, quantity, and the safety of the sales environment. Although such operations may reveal non-compliance, Obeahon emphasized that marketers are expected to follow ethical practices, selling quality products and dispensing correct quantities.

He encouraged consumers to stay alert and report any issues to the NMDPRA. Obeahon also noted that Warri is not facing the same petrol scarcity issues as other regions, with some stations having products but few customers. Additionally, there have been no reports of smuggling-related buying in jerry cans. The surveillance covered several stations, including Rainoil, Total Energies, and Newbridge filling station.
