Four people confirmed dead, and others injured in a road accident in Ogun.

Four people have been confirmed dead, and several others injured in a fatal crash that occurred in the Enugada area of Lafenwa, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The accident involved a truck with the registration number AAA 86 XX, which collided with two commercial motorcycles registered as DE 968 V and AAB 387 VP, along with a Honda CRV with the plate number EKY 857 GU at around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Reports indicate that both the truck driver and the motor boy were missing by the time the vehicle came to a stop.

Personnel from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) were at the scene, evacuating victims, clearing the road, and managing traffic. TRACE Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident and attributed the cause to brake failure as the truck descended from Itoku toward Enugada, Lafenwa. He stated that, according to eyewitnesses, the truck experienced mechanical brake failure while descending from Itoku enroute Ago-Oba towards Enugada, Lafenwa, and crashed into the two motorcycles and the Honda CRV. The crash killed the two motorcyclists and their passengers, while the Honda CRV driver sustained injuries.

Initially, six people were presumed dead, including the injured Honda CRV driver and a pedestrian. However, they were revived thanks to the efforts of first responders and members of the public who gathered at the scene of the crash,” said Akinbiyi. He mentioned that the bodies of the deceased and the injured were taken to a hospital, the name of which will be disclosed later.

Akinbiyi also urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are serviced regularly and to check that major mechanical components are in proper working condition before starting any journey.
