President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abdullahi Usman as the chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), with the appointment pending Senate confirmation, Presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale announced this in a statement on Monday.
Professor Usman is a respected scholar with qualifications from the University of Madinah and Peshawar University in Pakistan. He has significant experience in Hajj operations, having served as the Chairman of the Kano State Pilgrims Board, where he managed the largest state pilgrims’ quota in the country.
The President expects Usman to perform his duties with integrity, transparency, and full commitment to the nation. Usman replaces Jalal Arabi, the former NAHCON chairman, who is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for alleged mismanagement of the N90 billion presidential subsidy for the 2024 Hajj.
