Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources Clarifies Monthly Sanitation Exercise Rumors

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has firmly denied recent social media rumors claiming the re-introduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise and the associated movement restrictions starting at the end of July. In a statement released on Wednesday, the State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized that these rumors are false and the product of mischief makers aiming to confuse residents.

Commissioner Wahab urged Lagos residents to disregard the misinformation and continue with their daily activities without concern for any movement restrictions on the last Saturday of July. He highlighted the importance of verifying information from credible sources to prevent the spread of fake news. “There will be no restriction of movements on the last Saturday of July as erroneously included in the fake news,” Wahab reassured the public.

The Commissioner clarified that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s recent announcement during a sanitation sensitization exercise at Campos Playground on Lagos Island was misunderstood. The Governor had announced the commencement of a weekly community-based sensitization and awareness exercise. This initiative aims to engage all residents in maintaining cleanliness, with state government officials leading by example through voluntary participation in neighborhood clean-up activities.

Wahab reiterated that Governor Sanwo-Olu did not indicate any plans to reinstate the monthly sanitation exercise or movement restrictions in July or any other month for the time being. He encouraged residents to adopt a habit of consistently cleaning their surroundings, rather than waiting for government-declared sanitation days or movement restrictions.
