Tiwa Savage, a Nigerian singer, asserted that fervent fans frequently compare her to other female artists.
According to her, these fans tend to set her against every emerging female artist, suggesting they are aiming to usurp her position.
The ‘Water & Garri’ star mentioned that instead of engaging in rivalry, she prefers to extend friendship towards these new artists, emphasizing her belief that music shouldn’t be approached as a competition.
Savage spoke in a recent interview with BET.
She said, “Fans always try to pit me against other female artists. Any new female artist that comes up, they would be like, ‘Yo, she is coming to take her throne.’
“And I would go out of my way to make friends with them [new female artists] because it is not a competition. The real competition are the male artists. I was happy that Tyla, a female artists won the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys over the male nominees.”
