The 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) were held on May 11th 2024, and while the results may have surprised some Nigerian movie fans, the awards continue to fulfill their objective of recognizing talent in the Nollywood film industry.
With that in mind, here are the most decorated Nollywood actors and actresses since the prestigious AMVCAs were first introduced.
1. Funke Akindele (Six Awards)
Funke Akindele leads the pack with six AMVCA wins, showcasing her exceptional versatility in both comedy and drama. Known for her diverse and captivating character portrayals, she is the most awarded performer in the Best Actress in a Comedy category at the prestigious AMVCAs.
This year, Akindele is once again nominated, receiving nods for Best Lead Actress and Best Writing in a Movie for her work in “A Tribe Called Judah.”
2. Osas Ighodaro (Three Awards)
Osas Ighodaro has consistently impressed audiences with her exceptional talent and compelling performances. She won the award for Best Actress in a Movie/Drama Series for her role in “Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story” in 2022, and was also recognized as Best Dressed Female that same year. In 2023, Ighodaro added another AMVCA to her collection, winning Best Actress in a Movie/Drama for her performance in “Man of God.”
3. Rita Dominic (Three Awards)
Rita Dominic, a powerhouse in Nigeria’s film industry, has earned widespread acclaim for her outstanding performances and impactful productions. She has been honored with three AMVCA awards, including the prestigious New Era Award in 2014, Best Actress in a Comedy in 2015 for “The Meeting,” and Best Actress in a Drama/TV Series in 2017 for “76.”
4. Falz (Two Awards)
Folarin Falana, known professionally as Falz, is a versatile artist who has excelled in both the music and film industries. He has been honored with two AMVCA awards, winning his first in 2016 for his work in “Jenifa’s Diary” and later taking home the Best Supporting Actor trophy for his performance in “New Money” in 2018.
5. Broda Shaggi (Two Awards)
Samuel Perry, popularly known by his stage name Broda Shaggi, is a two-time AMVCA winner for Best Actor in a Comedy, Movie, or TV Series. He was recognized for his standout roles in “Dwindle” in 2022 and “Inside Life” in 2023.
6. Adesua Etomi (Two Awards)
Adesua Etomi has secured two AMVCA wins over the course of her acclaimed career. She first won the Best Actress award in 2016 for her performance in “Falling” and later added a Best Supporting Actress trophy to her collection for her role in the critically acclaimed film “The King of Boys” in 2019.
7. OC Ukeje (Two Awards)
OC Ukeje, a versatile Nigerian actor, model, and musician, has been honored with two AMVCA awards. He was named Best Actor in a Drama for his work in “Two Brides and a Baby” in 2013 and “Confusion Na Wa” in 2015.
8. Odunlade Adekola (Two Awards)
Odunlade Adekola, a prominent figure in the Yoruba-language film industry, has also earned two AMVCA awards. He was recognized as the Best Actor in a Comedy for his performance in “A Million Baby” in 2018 and the Best Supporting Actor for “Jankariwo” in 2022.
9. Sambasa Nzeribe (Two Awards)
Sambasa Nzeribe, a Nigerian actor, model, and entertainer, has been awarded the AMVCA for Best Supporting Actor for “Soldier’s Story” in 2016 and Best Actor in 2017.
These actors have made significant contributions to the growth and success of Nollywood, earning them multiple AMVCA awards and solidifying their status as some of the industry’s most talented and versatile performers.
