Due to early morning rains that caused key highways to flood, residents of the Alimosho Local Government Area in Lagos State’s Command area have been advised to take alternate routes to reach their destinations.
The rainstorm that began in some places at 2 and 5 a.m. and moved throughout the state on Tuesday continued for a short while before 10 a.m.
The Command bridge has been flooded, thus residents in the Command area were also advised not to use it.
This was said in a statement released on Tuesday morning by Ibrahim Farinloye, the National Emergency Management Authority’s coordinator for Lagos.
He also noted that joint teams from NEMA, the Fire Service, and the Police are actively engaged in rescuing trapped individuals from the affected area.
“The residents of Command Area are urged to take alternative routes by avoiding Command and the near areas as flood have overran the bridge.
“NEMA, Fire Service and Police are working to get trapped people out of the area presently”
A flood at Gate House, Gold Crescent, Lagos State Development and Property Corporation Bungalow Scheme, Oke Afa, Isolo, Lagos, last year was thought to have killed one person.
The estate’s flooding, which posed a constant threat to people’s safety and their possessions, caused concern among the residents.
In separate encounters with our journalist, a few people said that the flood had gotten worse following Tuesday’s downpour.
