Senator Adams Oshiomhole (representing Edo North) has attributed the severe economic hardships experienced by Nigerians to what he describes as the “reckless policies” implemented during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Oshiomhole asserted that he had opposed many of these policies, alleging that they were designed to further oppress an already struggling population.
These remarks were made during his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program over the weekend.
The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized his allegiance to Nigeria, stating, “My primary loyalty lies with Nigeria.” He recounted expressing concerns about what he perceived as “reckless policies” during the tenure of the previous President, policies he believed were aimed at further burdening a population already suffering. He expressed disappointment that these policies contradicted the promises made by the former president. Senator Oshiomhole noted that he distanced himself from these policies and expressed satisfaction in not being alone in his opposition to them.
“There were Governors who approached the court to denounce some of those policies. It is the long-term consequences of those policies that we are still grappling with now.”
The former Governor of Edo State expressed his belief that President Bola Tinubu should not be held responsible for the actions taken by the outgoing administration.
“Yes, it is our party platform. Like Tinubu also said, he was not a minister or adviser. He never took a contract in that government and he cannot be held responsible for what the government did right or wrong,” he said.
