Approximately 67,315 eligible voters are expected to participate in the bye-election scheduled for Saturday, February 3, in Enugu State, according to a statement issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state capital on Tuesday.
Mr. Rex Achumie, the Head of the Department for Voters Education and Publicity at INEC, announced that the rerun will take place in the Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency and the Enugu South (Urban) State Constituency between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 3.
Achumie further stated that there will be 173 polling places across 25 Registration Areas, also known as political wards. He noted that for the Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, there will be a total of 62,697 eligible voters distributed among 24 Registration Areas and 165 polling places.
The INEC representative also mentioned that the Enugu South (Urban) State Constituency would have 4,618 eligible voters, which will be spread across one Registration Area (political ward) and eight voting units.
He also stated that INEC would deploy all of its technological resources, such as the INEC Election Result Viewing Portal (IReV) and the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS), similar to their use during the primary polls in 2023.
Achumie further emphasized that all customary election protocols and regulations would be adhered to during the rerun, guaranteeing that all eligible voters who arrive by 2:30 p.m. would be able to cast their votes and have them accurately counted.
“The Enugu State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Chukwuemeka Chukwu, has been working round the clock to ensure hitch-free elections by ensuring water-tight arrangements and meeting various election stakeholders,” he said.
