The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the detention of Mr. Olajide Ahmed Kafidipe, an Assistant General Manager of Skyway Handling Company (SAHCO), along with seven other employees, at the Ikoyi Center of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS). The court, presided over by Justice Deinde Dipeolu, remanded them in custody after granting bail. They face charges from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) related to conspiracy, unlawful possession, and transportation of 1,440.90 kilograms of Tramadol 225mg, a prohibited substance.
The other individuals remanded alongside Olajide include Sanyaolu Rasheed Oladele, Musa Mutalib Opeyemi, Sanamo Alla Daniel, Anuge Evans Isibor, Mahmud Agboola Musa, Udeh Felix, and Obinna Henry. Each defendant was granted bail at N5 million with two sureties, one of whom must be a Grade Level 12 or above federal government employee, and the second a property owner with a Certificate of Occupancy (CofO).
Justice Dipeolu emphasized that the particulars of the sureties must undergo verification by the court’s Deputy Chief Registrar. The defendants were remanded at the Ikoyi Center of the NCoS until they meet the bail conditions. The trial is scheduled to commence on January 25.
The NDLEA had brought charges against the SAHCO employees, alleging their involvement in conspiring to possess and transport the prohibited substance. The prosecutor, Mr. Abu Ibrahim, revealed that the defendants collaborated with others, now at large, to commit the offenses around October 25, 2023. The charges brought against them contravene specific sections of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and are punishable under corresponding sections of the same Act. Despite the allegations, all defendants pleaded not guilty during the arraignment.
